What is pink noise?

Among all listed noises only pink noise represents particular interest for us. It appears with lower frequencies (therefore “softer”, than white noise) and “fades” each octave a little (“flickers” or “pulses”).

The most striking example of pink noise in life — a helicopter sounds. In nature, it is the noise of far falls (as high frequencies fade in air).

What does child hear in the womb?

Actually, uterus cavity is much noisier than people got used to thinking. The child is surrounded, first of all, sounds of intestines (at the expense of a vermicular movement, gas generation, motility of intestines), sounds of a heart rhythm. The noise of the blood moving on vessels, sounds of the revealing lungs, the speech of mother and noise from the environment.

How pink and white noise can help the child?

Noise is interesting to parents and doctors because, presumably, pink noise is heard by the child as such “pulsing” or “flickering” noise publishes noise of heart (at the expense of a warm rhythm).

Sometimes mothers involuntarily try to reproduce pink noise, comforting the kid sounds “sh-sh-sh”. Thereby they unconsciously try to imitate the sound environment in a uterus (by the way, as well as carrying attempts to swaddle the child or to rock to sleep him on hands).
