Common questions about white noise?
What is noise?
In life, we often face the noise. We hear noise of the sea, noise of crowd, wind noise, water noise, and noise of the passed car…
What type of noise happens to be?
There is a huge number of classifications of noise.
Noise can be changeable (for example, the bus which passes the road) and constant (for example, the noise proceeding from the crowd of people). Such fixed noises conditionally classified by capacity, frequency, range, color and other parameters.
Classification of noise by color is especially interesting (division is carried out by analogy with the range of colors of visible light). There are white, pink, brown, blue, violet, gray, orange, red, green and black noises.
What is white noise?
White noise is chaotic and unsystematic signals. In forming of white noise participates sounds of various frequency, intensity, and loudness. In meantime, all these sounds are mixed among themselves and people do not distinguish them and hear a monotonous sound.
The most remarkable example of white noise is a sound from the radio, which is not occupied by a radio wave or TV channel. In nature and in household life those are sounds of close falls, wind, a stream, the ocean, foliage, the fan, vacuum cleaner, etc. To find more about white noise visit Soothing Noises.
What is pink noise?
Among all listed noises only pink noise represents particular interest for us. It appears with lower frequencies (therefore “softer”, than white noise) and “fades” each octave a little (“flickers” or “pulses”).
The most striking example of pink noise in life — a helicopter sounds. In nature, it is the noise of far falls (as high frequencies fade in air).
What does child hear in the womb?
Actually, uterus cavity is much noisier than people got used to thinking. The child is surrounded, first of all, sounds of intestines (at the expense of a vermicular movement, gas generation, motility of intestines), sounds of a heart rhythm. The noise of the blood moving on vessels, sounds of the revealing lungs, the speech of mother and noise from the environment.
Presumably, the child as such «pulsing» or «flickering» noise hears pink noise.
How pink and white noise can help the child?
Noise is interesting to parents and doctors because, presumably, pink noise is heard by the child as such “pulsing” or “flickering” noise publishes noise of heart (at the expense of a warm rhythm).
Sometimes mothers involuntarily try to reproduce pink noise, comforting the kid sounds “sh-sh-sh”. Thereby they unconsciously try to imitate the sound environment in a uterus (by the way, as well as carrying attempts to swaddle the child or to rock to sleep him on hands).
